Spring Musical

This year for the spring musical Zach’s preschool class performed “The Little Red Hen”  Zach was a Turkey.

The boys look so serious in the first picture.  Oh wait, was this the Gap Kids photo shoot or the school play?

Little League Day at the Ballpark

Zach’s baseball team participated in Little League day at the ballpark.  They let us parade around the field before the game while the teams were warming up and after the game we were able to run the bases.  For me this means chasing Zach around the bases with my camera.

Easter

Every Easter for the last few years Zachary and Faith (friend from next door) have an Easter egg hunt that spans the two front yards.  The Easter Bunny hides eggs filled with small toys that they run around and find, and then they sit down to see what sort of bounty they have.

This year I took some of the colored Easter eggs and made one of my Mom’s favorite Easter breakfast: Eggs Goldenrod.  Pretty tasty, but next time I won’t leave out as many egg yolks.

Acoustic Set

Zach puts on a lot of shows for us and this time he chose the acoustic guitar.  It’s nice that he can unplug and let the audience hear the nuances in his performance.   Actually the fun part is listening to the lyrics he makes up.

Disneyland

The last part of our road trip was a nice treat for Zach – his first trip to Disneyland.  We started pretty easy with the Dumbo Ride and the Teacups.  Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride turned out to be a little too dark and loud.

Then he started trying the roller coasters…

And even the bigger roller coasters…over and over.

He rode Splash Mountain four or five times.  After going down the big drop he told me, “Daddy, it’s OK for boys to scream sometimes too.”

Walking in the park the second day he told me he wants to go to Disneyland everyday.  At the end of each day he was so tired I had to carry him out of the park and to the hotel.

First Road Trip

We decided to take our first family road trip and head down to Tucson and meet up with my parents.  We stopped in Palm Springs for a couple of nights to break up the driving.

The view from our room looked like a post card.

Zach said he wanted to stay in the hotel room all day.  He kept playing with the doors, balcony, pillows, and other furniture in the room but we convinced him to try out the pool.

One evening after a late lunch we wanted to grab something small for dinner so we decided to go to Burger King where we could get Macaroni and Cheese for Zach.  As we walked into the restaurant Zach found the table where he wanted to sit but he needed to wait in line with us.  By the time we finished ordering the table was taken and Zach had a hard time getting over it.  After pushing his food around his plate a few times he said, “Dad, this is the worst place you’ve ever taken us.”  Sometimes you just can’t win.  Of course, that Burger King was probably the worst place I’ve taken him.

We drove up to 29 Palms to visit Joshua Tree National Park and take a few small hikes.  Zach had a blast climbing over all the big rocks.

Next stop was Tucson and a visit with my parents.

We went out to a small airport where they were holding a fundraiser and would take you up in a plane for 15 cents/lb.   A pilot named Cole took us up in his 4-seat Piper Cherokee 180.  Once we were up in the air Cole let me fly for a while!  Pretty cool!

We also went to a couple spring training baseball games, including the Cubs visiting the Rockies.

Opening Day

Zach was pretty exited for opening day of the 2009 season.  He’s on the Tampa Bay Rays, but he’ll tell you the “TB” on his hat stands for “Tee-Ball”.

They change positions every inning so they get a chance to play outfield and infield.  Most of the action is in the infield.

Tee-Ball Practice

Zach just started playing tee-ball and really enjoys it.  Here are a couple of practice drills:
